Who We Are

Crossview Community Church is a nondenominational family of God in Fayette, Alabama. Our congregation is a beautiful blend of previously unchurched folks and of Christians from varying religious backgrounds, including Church of Christ, Free Will and Southern Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, and Catholic.

Each of us decided that it was time for a body of believers to come together and focus on the core tenets of the Christian faith without regard to denominational traditions and rituals that for too long have divided God's people.

At Crossview, we focus primarily on what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, living the grace of God, and sharing our lives with other people. We believe that our differences pale in comparison to our common strength: Jesus Christ and Him crucified (1 Cor 2:1). Crossview is a compassionate, contemporary, and Christ-centered body of believers in Fayette, Alabama. We are striving to move from religion to relationship.

An Open Church

Crossview is an open church, that is to say, we embrace the Priesthood of the Believer (1Pet 2:5,9). Many churches maintain a closed assembly style, meaning that everything is planned beforehand and a strict order is followed, with little or no room for impromptu sharing or testimony.

Crossview seeks a balance between planning what we do in our assemblies and leaving room for what some have called “planned spontaneity.” We are attempting to follow the instructions of the Holy Spirit when He says through Paul:

When you come together, everyone has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. All of these must be done for the strengthening of the church (1Cor 14:26 emphasis mine).

Our goal is to encourage each person to contribute his or her gift(s) for the common good of the Body, and many closed system churches simply do not provide an avenue for people to express themselves in this way. At Crossview, however, we see our time together on Sundays as a spiritual feast, with each person bringing a covered dish of gifts, talents, and sacrifices to be unveiled for God's glory and for the strengthening of the church.

How We Stay Focused

The Crossview mission, vision, and purpose statements articulate our covenants with one another and God. They are in place, not as doctrines or creeds, but as reminders of what is most important to us and to the Lord. Everything else aside, the Holy Spirit is clear about what is of the utmost importance in Christianity:

Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born (1 Corin. 15:1-8 NIV, emphasis mine).
