C.I.A. (Christians In Action)

We teach our teens to be Jesus Freaks, and ironically, this title put some people off. But all you have to do is read the stories in the Gospel accounts and there is no denying that the religious and secular worlds saw John the Baptizer, Christ, and the disciples as social non denominationalanomalies, as lunatics, as freaks. For a more detailed explanation, read the sermon “Freaks, Fools & Fanatics.”

Our teenagers face an almost endless supply of temptations on a daily basis. Consequently, we don't need to lower the bar of expectations, we need to raise it!

Crossview believes we need to call our kids to a radical, fanatical, freaky faith…one that will blow their friends away! And God's blessing this ministry in a tremendous way!

We're a band of renegade disciples that develops contemporary skits and plays two Sunday nights per month.

C.I.A. members also consume large amounts of pizza, and we've been spotted frequently at the skating rink, the bowling alley, and the laser tag arena.

Praise Team

Nothing stirs the soul like music. And King David, I believe, felt the same way (you can read a few of his compositions in a little hymnal called Psalms). The Lord has blessed the Crossview family with many talented musicians and singers, and we believe in honing and developing these musical gifts to His glory and for building up our congregation.

Praise Team is a ministry devoted to teaching and leading the congregation in music and song. We strongly believe in combining new songs with old, mixing a cappella singing with musical accompaniment, and encouraging our people to share their musical talents with the congregation either solo or with special group presentations.

We put the words of our songs (sometimes coupled with background scenic photos for exta flavor) on a screen up front so that everyone, especially visitors and the unchurched, can easily sing along.

One of Crossview's favorite things is watching Powerpoint slide shows which contain photos of our church family and are set to contemporary Christian music. The addition of a computer and an LCD projector have been invaluable in enhancing our time of praise and worship.

Table of Grace, Place Called Grace, Favorite Song of All, and Christian (Phillips, Craig & Dean) are among our favorite slide shows. We also enjoy Fingerprints of God (Steven Curtis Chapman), You Alone (Kim Hill), and Circle of Friends (Point of Grace).

If you really want to encourage your congregation in a special way, here is what you do: find a song you like and put the lyrics on slides in Powerpoint.

Then gather some photos of your church family, scan them (JPEG format), and place one photo per slide. Turn on the music, advance the slides and voila! Instant encouragement! Email me if you want detailed instructions on this ministry.

Drama

While everyone is encouraged to participate in drama, C.I.A. are the main players in this ministry.

Skits and plays are excellents vehicles to help communicate Generation X (born 1966 to 1986) perspectives on life, love, and Christianity. This segment of people is the one most noticeably absent in our churches. Take a look around next time your are with your congregation. How many “twenty somethings” are there?

See what I mean?

Gen X stays away from organized religion for good reason: Most churches do not connect with them. But Crossview is changing the rules here as well, and the Lord has blessed us with a great group of Gen Xers. Our kids love drama and video, so we find a way to get Jesus into those mediums, and it is working.

Complimentary Thanksgiving Dinner

Kevin K. does a Barnabas-like “bang-up-good” job every year at Thanksgiving with this ministy. Kevin, along with many of the Crossview family and a host of community volunteers, spend the Monday before Thanksgiving delivering boxes of food, including a turkey, to needy families.

This is no Swansons TV dinner either. We prepare boxes with all the necessary items for a complete Thanksgiving dinner: a turkey, can of vegetables and cranberry sauce, and stuffing and dessert mixes.

Fayette is a community of about 5,000 folks, and the Lord provided a way for us to serve people in our community for the last eight years. We look forward to His blessing again next year!

Christmas for Children

Kevin K. heads up an effort to provide brand new toys and clothes at Christmas time for those in our community who struggle financially. By working in conjunction with the Fayette Department of Human Resources and local volunteers, the Lord helps us provide toys and clothes for 500 children.

New ministries are being born all the time!

Crossview does not believe in the program your church to death ministry method. We simply allow Jesus to shape individual hearts into His likeness, and we constantly pray for new ways to serve and help. And when He delivers, and He always does, then we begin new works where needs exist.

Thus far our family members have been great to just step up to the plate and say, “Hey, we need to do this or that.” And guess what? We let them. Crossview threw out the red tape long ago (along with the sacred cows).

One thing that we always need at Crossview, in addition to people, is funds. If you would like to contribute to any of our ministries, please send your tax deductible donation here.
